Data Source

OpenMarket's SMS messaging services capture and store data about each message you send. This data is stored in one or more data sources, which are then used as the input to reports. For example, our SMS services use two main data sources: SMS Summary and SMS Detailed. Every report gets its data from a specific data source.

Standard Report

OpenMarket designs and generates some reports that we refer to generally as our standard reports. Your account manager will work with you to determine whether you will benefit from using any of the standard reports. If so, he or she will generate a report based on your data and make that report available to you in a shared folder named after your company.

With standard reports, OpenMarket defines all the properties, including the data source, fields, aggregations, and schedule. The only properties of a standard report that you can modify are how it's delivered (email, HTTP, SFTP) and the delivery format (XML, CSV, JSON).

Custom Report

You will likely want to design reports that contain just the data you're interested in and run them according to a schedule that works for your needs. These are called custom reports.

When you create a custom report, you can start from scratch or from a copy of an existing report. When you create a report from scratch, you define all the properties of the report, including which data source to use and which fields and filters to include. When you create a custom report from a copy of another report, your report inherits all the properties of the original report and you can modify all of the properties except the underlying data source.

Widget

A widget is a specific way to visualize data. Widgets are intended to communicate quantitative relationships, such as the number of successful text messages sent during a particular month, or the number of messages that failed in one country versus another.

Widgets come in three types: standard, custom, and text. Standard and custom widgets are specifically for visualizing data, while text widgets simply hold text. As with standard reports, your access to standard widgets depends on whether your OpenMarket account manager has given you access to them.

When you create a custom widget, you select which type of widget to use (e.g., bar, line, pie, etc.) and which report to base it on, and then set up the widget by specifying the data series, the X and Y axis values, and various formatting options.

Dashboard

A dashboard is a container for widgets. You create a dashboard and then place widgets on it so that you can visualize the report data that's most important to you. You store dashboards in either My Folder or in Shared if you want to share them with other users. You can designate your dashboard to be the page that displays first when you log in to Reports.

Folder

A container for reports and dashboards. The navigation pane within Reports displays all the folders you have access to. There are two main folders: My Folder and Shared.

Owner

The user who owns a folder, report or dashboard. If you create one of these objects then you are the owner, and you can share them with others or transfer ownership to another user.

Permissions

Folders, dashboards, and reports can all be shared amongst users. When you create one of these objects, you are the owner and the only user who can share the object with others. When you share a folder, report, or dashboard, you can assign one or multiple users view or edit permissions.

Aggregate data A field that you can perform basic calculations on, such as sum, average, minimum, and maximum.
